mbda1A partnership focused on innovation and research in energy efficiency with the latest generation of multi-functional full inverter units ISA4-EA.

Thanks to the precious and valuable collaboration between Thermocold and one of the most prestigious plant engineering Italian company, the Fatiga Appalti in Rome, an innovative multi-functional full-inverter system was provided for one of the most important installation of the last years, not only in Italy but all over the Europe, the MBDA center of Rome.

For the comfort of the new buildings of the MBDA Italia Spa head office in Rome, one of the three member companies of the Matra BAE Dynamics Alenia - MBDA, the biggest European consortium for advanced HI TECH technologies, the Thermocold’s Multitube System units were chosen, innovative multi-functional FULL INVERTER units for four-pipe associated system.

N.5 Thermocold ISA4 - EA units were installed to provide heating and cooling for the two new buildings dedicated to the research and development activity of the center. The plant is composed by multi-functional units for 4-pipe systems with super low noise configuration and full inverter design concept, supplying a total cooling capacity of 3700 kW and a heating capacity about 4120 kW.

The four-pipe technology is considered the best energy efficient solution able to satisfy the complex needings of all those buildings where it is necessary to neutralize simultaneous opposite thermal loads.

If double exposure buildings, whether they are intended for office, hotels or banks, are the main application of this technology, it is also widely used in other contexts such as discos, where cooling is needed for the dance floor area while heating is needed in areas dedicated to conversation, or in the operating theatre where the heat and cooling demand is independent from the season.

The polyvalent units are essentially composed of two distinct sections, the hot one, at condenser side, and the cold one, at evaporator side: the simultaneous production of hot and chilled water allows the unit to adapt its operation to any requirement of the plant, in a totally autonomous and self-managed way.

ISA4 - EA, operating in total heat recovery mode, is able to satisfy the simultaneous demand of hot and cold water all over the year, simplifying the plant and reducing operating costs. Essentially, the advantages of this solution can be expressed in:

  • Efficient and more accurate temperature control during all the seasons.
  • Water temperature adjustment independent from the climatic conditions.
  • Simultaneous heating and air conditioning of building with opposite thermal loads.
  • Maximum flexibility of management.
  • Higher energy efficiency than any other combination of products and systems (chiller with boiler, heat pump and boiler etc.etc.).
  • Removal of the boilers.

These advantages demonstrate the clear superiority of multi-functional systems compared with any other combination of products that must be combined in order to satisfy the simultaneous heating and cooling demand. We took up this challenge, being certain to outperform even the most modern and technologically advanced multifunctional systems with more innovative solutions, not only in terms of technology, but especially considering the management of electrical equipment with the primary aim to achieve large energy savings and consequently very high energy performance.
